What Toys Fit in a Toy Hauler

Toy hauler RVs offer the luxury of being able to travel with the outdoor toys you and your family love! From kayaks and paddle boards to dirt bikes and ATVs, toy haulers can anything. But the key to knowing exactly what can fit into a toy hauler is having the correct measurements of both your toy hauler and cargo and knowing just how to load everything in in order to maximize your storage space. So we’ve gathered up some basic measurements to help you visualize which toys fit in a toy hauler.

Garage Size

The first thing we want to consider is the size of the toy hauler’s garage. The interior width of a toy hauler is typically 7.5 – 8′ wide, and it’s not going to vary much from rig to rig. What will vary is the length of the garage. Toy haulers come with garages that range in length from 7′-18′, however most are between 10-14 feet in length. If you know the size of the cargo you’re planning to haul, then choose the length of a new toy hauler accordingly. Or if you already own a toy hauler, then you can use the garage’s length to determine what types of toys you can fit inside. Let’s take a look at the most common toys that are being loaded into toy haulers and their corresponding measurements.

Side by Sides

These are usually the biggest toys we see going into toy haulers on a consistent basis. Side by sides can vary in length for the most part depending on how many seats it has. A smaller, 2-seat side by side is typically going to be around 10′ long and weigh almost 1,300 pounds. The larger ones are typically around 12.5′ long and close to 1,575 pounds! Most models are around 5′ wide and up to 6.5′ tall.

Dune Buggies

Dune buggies are popular around the Great Lakes region or the ocean where dunes are everywhere to play on. Small, one-seat dune buggies are usually about 4.5′ long, 2.5′ wide, and 3.5′ tall. They usually weigh around 175 pounds. The larger ones that hold more passengers can be as large as 14′ long, 6.5′ wide, and 6.5′ tall and weigh around 1,500 pounds.

ATVs

ATVs are a popular recreational toy and they come in many different sizes. Kid-sized ATVs measure around 5′ long, 3′ wide, and 3′ tall. These usually weigh around 250 pounds. The bigger utility ATVs are generally around 8′ long, almost 4′ wide, and 3.5′ tall. These can weigh around 820 pounds!

Motorized Bikes

Toy haulers are often used to transport dirt bikes and motorcycles. Dirt bikes for kids can be as small as 5.5′ long, 3′ wide at the handlebars, and about 3.25′ tall. They usually weigh around 160 pounds. Motorcycles can be quite a bit larger, especially if they have a sidecar. They can measure 8.75′ long, be 8.25′ wide at the back tires, and about 5′ tall. Large motorcycles can weigh a whopping 900 pounds!

Snowmobiles

Toy haulers are perfect for carrying snowmobiles when the temps drop and the snow starts to fly. A small, youth-sized one is about 6′ long, 3′ wide, and 2.5′ tall and can weigh around 150 pounds. The full-sized utility sleds are around 11.5′ long, 4′ wide, and 4.25′ tall and can weight around 500 pounds.

Add a Standing Desk to the Garage

Toy haulers can make for great mobile offices. If you’re trying to find a unique way to work on the go, then adding a desk to the garage of your toy hauler may be the way to go!

Use the general measurements above along with your actual measurements to determine how to match your cargo with a toy hauler, or vice versa. To ensure that you have the most extreme, thrill-filled adventure possible, pack smart and travel safe!
