Lake Superior attracts crowds not just for its picturesque shoreline, but also for what lies below the waterline as well. Taking a boat tour is a great way to experience the landscape from a new perspective and to see down into the water from a one-of-a-kind vantage point. One of the most popular tourist attractions in the area is the Pictured Rocks Cruises which will take you on a two-and-a-half-hour boat ride along the Pictured Rocks shoreline where you’ll see lovely features like Lover’s Leap, Grand Portal, and Miners Castle. For a more educational experience, take a shipwreck tour in a glass-bottom boat and see what remains of past vessels like The Bermuda and The Kiowa. For a truly unforgettable experience, rent a kayak and paddle the waters along the Pictured Rocks!
With around 90 miles of trails within the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, there are plenty of amazing opportunities to lace up those walking shoes and go for a hike! At only a 1/2 mile long, the Sand Point Marsh Trail is ideal for beginners and it features a boardwalk which guides you through a wondrous wetland ecosystem of swamps, spruces, and lagoons. The less-than-seven-mile hike to Chapel Rock and Beach is a bit more advanced, but the hike pays off with a beautiful end point where you can observe an interesting formation in the rock ledge which exposes the underground root system of a tree.
